Pub-sib? My best guess is that I am to taut the laurels of a publication sibling–a book that has come out either through my publisher or a title that has debuted at the same time as my book, Ten Commandments for Kissing Gloria Jean. Well. I have both–TCfKGJ premiered alongside Martyred: The Story of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz by Susan Tan. In my head I jokingly called it the “sex and violence” releases, as these two upper teen books were the first to deal with more mature themes for older readers. Of course because Pauline is an amazing Catholic publisher, it means that topics like teenagers starting to understand Church teaching on the beauty of chastity, authentic love, and the theology of the body as it relates to human sexuality; or a young adult saint sacrificing himself so much for the faith are done very well, with a deft editorial hand and respect for the faith, as well as dignity of the readers.
My pub-date buddy (January 2014) and my book are just two members to an ever-growing family of books for kids and teens at Pauline Media. My favorite “pub-sibs” are actually the books of dear friends, two lovely women, Nicole Lataif (we even share the same editor!) and Carol Gordon Ekster, who write picture books.
